Let us help remove the mystery from fly fishing. Many people let the simple idea of fly fishing defeat them, as there seems to be a notion that it is all highly technical and difficult. Nothing could be further from the truth as it's just another way to catch fish. While you can get as technical as you want, your average fly fishing is easy and fun. We cover basic casting, knots, bugs, flies and their uses, reading water, equipment required, followed by actual time on the water either in a boat or in a stream. We supply all of the equipment including rods/reels, flies, tippet, most size waders and boots, nets, wading staffs etc. Give us a call and we'll help you set up a tailored fly fishing class for you, family and friends. We also teach basic fly tying.

As the heat of summer wears on we focus our efforts on smallmouth and largemouth bass fishing. Maine has numerous lakes and rivers full of these hard fighting fish. Their willingness to take a fly or lure makes them ideal for the youngsters in your family. And it's fun! Give a local guide or sporting camp a call!
Hunting for ruffed grouse in Maine starts Saturday, the 26th of September. There is no Sunday hunting in Maine, but this gives you a day to fish before the season closes up north the first of October. Grand Lake stream has a special fishing season 1-25 October, and the East Outlet is open for fishing the entire month. Great time for a cast and blast! Hunt birds in the morning, and fish in the afternoon!
This season will be a great year to fish for native brook trout in the North Maine Woods. With over 3.5 million acres, you can fish all day and never see a soul. We guide fishing trips out of Umcolcus Sporting Camps located in Oxbow, with great cabins, outstanding food, friendly atmosphere, family oriented, and gateway to the North Maine woods. You have access to numerous small streams, ponds, and rivers. The Aroostook river is only 8 miles away from camp, and a short drive will take you to many great streams like the Mooseleuk. Grand Lake Matagamon is also a short drive away. Wildlife viewing is top notch, with moose, eagles, bear, deer, turkey, and everything else. Canoes and kayaks on site for your use. Listen to the night sounds of the woods, and look at the beautiful sky as you sit by a roaring campfire. Book your trip to the North Maine woods today! You will create a memory of a lifetime.
